Why Medicine & Physiotherapy India?
With monsoon forests, the Himalayas, flat plains and awe-inspiring temples, it is wrong to try and generalize about this sub-continent. To live in India is to experience a way of life totally unlike anything we are used to in the West. Even the most mundane everyday tasks become an adventure! The sights, sounds and smells that assault the senses when arriving in any Indian town really have to be experienced to be believed!
Medical Volunteering in India
Our medical programme in India gives you the chance to work in leprosy clinics, maternity hospitals, dentistry facilities, kidney care centres and busy general hospitals throughout Tamil Nadu. We have structured the placements so that you will rotate around a number of clinics during your time with us, but if you want to specialise just let us know. Wherever you work you are likely to see text-book examples of conditions which never develop so far in the West. You will observe and assist with diagnosis and treatments. There are also opportunities to work with local physiotherapists and at a traditional Ayurvedic clinic.
Why Volunteer in a Medical Placement?
The medical projects we organise provide our volunteers with an incredibly interesting and eye opening experience. They are able to observe how the medical process works in a developing country, and more than that, they are actively involved in it.
Those who are looking to study medicine at university will find that by shadowing doctors and watching medical procedures they will learn a great amount on a placement and gain experience that would simply not be possible in their home country. The project is also open to elective students and depending on their level of experience it may be possible to assist on a practical level.
The doctors and nurses with whom the volunteers work really enjoy the cultural exchange that is brought by the volunteers and are more than happy for you to be involved in most aspects of their work in the hospital. This placement should be used as a wonderful opportunity to question doctors who are very willing to share their expertise and knowledge.
